LGBT

Laura Finlay
Hi there,
I’m Laura, and I’m your LGBT Right’s Officer for 2009/10. I work representing the rights and needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender students. Campaigns I’ve run in the past have included the MSM Blood Ban, Coming out of Your Shell and Bisexuality Awareness.
This year, my main campaigns are: the Civil Marriage campaign, LGBT Mental Health and LGBT Drugs and Alcohol, as well as carrying on the stellar work done thus far on the Trans campaign.
Every year, USI organises a weekend called Pink Training. This is an event at which LGBT students from all over Ireland come together for a weekend of workshops, talks, guest speakers and a couple of nights out!
The workshops will include sexual health, coming out, Trans 101, queer theory and sexual empowerment.
Meanwhile, the talks will be on topics ranging from civil marriage to bisexuality. It’s a fantastic opportunity for LGBT people to meet outside of the gay “scene” and some of the workshops can be extremely beneficial for people, especially the coming out workshops. So, I hope to see you all at it this year!
The USI LGBT Campaign works closely with other LGBT interest groups such as MarriagEquality, TENI, the NLGF and BeLonG To, among others.
Check out the LGBT Section of the website to find out more information on any of the issue’s mentioned above.
