International Students

Hi all!
My name is Mariya Levchuk and I am the International Students Officer.
As part of the USI Equality Campaign we aim to support overseas students, to stand for their interests and rights.
The campaign is an ideal opportunity for everyone interested to get involved. This year we will focus on promoting participation of international students in student unions activities. During the upcoming regional seminars, students are presented with a chance to express their valuable views. When it comes to decision-making, Irish SUs benefit from enthusiasm and opinions of students from diverse backgrounds. The goal of the game is for your voices to be heard.
Another focus of the campaign is to lobby for fair employment opportunities for international graduates, holding on to the rights that are available already, as this sensitive issue continues to be one of the main worries.
In the light of the present economic recession the immigration regime for full time non-EEA students is under review by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. We believe that interests of overseas students have to be represented in relation with these new proposals. We also oppose the GNIB increase of registration fee that puts extra financial pressure on the international students.
This campaign is run for you and if you wish to get involved just get in touch with me. Email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and I will do my best to help you with any of your issues and questions.

Priorities for this campaign have still to be decided.
